During these talks, leaders from around the world will meet to reach a consensus that will address the global issue of climate change. Their goal: limit temperature increases to below 2 degrees Celsius by the year 2100. Participants in this exercise will take on the role of negotiator and will experience first-hand the obstacles in reaching an international climate deal. With the aid of the C- ROADS computer model – based on the most recent climate science and IPCC AR5 models – participants are able to see how their decisions would affect the global climate system in real-time.Dr. Andrew Light, Director of the Institute for Philosophy and Public Policy at George Mason University, will be speaking to the participantsabout their experience with the simulation. As Staff Climate Adviser in the Secretary's Office of Policy Planning in the U.S. Department of State, Dr. Light has served on the senior strategy team for the UN climate negotiations and will help consult for the State Department during theupcoming December talks. He will provide insight on the challenges and complexities faced by negotiators during these annual meetings, as well as the process of translating international agreements into new domestic policy. If you are interested in attending the event, please RSVP to Geoffrey Dipre at dipre.4@osu.edu by Tuesday, September 29.
