Why has an Italian high school science teacher been working for nine months at the Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center? What could be the value in including teachers in research activities? Answering these questions involves a journey from Italy to Columbus, stopping by Antarctica along the way.

During the 2014-2015 Antarctic summer, I was selected by the Italian Antarctic Program as a science teacher participant in an Italian Antarctic expedition. This outreach project has involved schools and teachers throughout Italy and put me in contact with polar educators across the globe. Starting from this experience, I kept “following the ice” of an Italian Glacier on Mount Ortles to the Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center. My talk will include my previous experience in the field, my studies that brought me here, and what I have accomplished while in the United States.
